San Diego Comic Con 2012 - Doctor Who Cyberman

Doctor Who - Cyberman Costume

Sunday is the big Doctor Who panel at Comic Con. This is probably the best DIY low budget cardboard costume I have ever seen.

The Hobbit Panel - San Diego Comic Con 2012

I attended the Warner Brothers panel in Hall H and got to see the exclusive footage for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Attending the panel were Peter Jackson, Phillippa Boyens(producer/writer), Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Andy Serkis (Gollum/Assistant Director), Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield), Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins).

Galadriel the Most Powerful?

Some people are concerned about Phillippa Boyens's comment regarding Galadriel:

"Galadriel as you all know is the most powerful being in Middle Earth at this time."

Clearly Galadriel is not the most powerful being in the traditional sense of 'who would win in a fight'; for example Galadriel vs. A Balrog, Galadriel vs. Sauron, Galadriel vs. Glorfindel, and so forth.

I think what Phillipa was getting at was that Galadriel's reign and rulership was the most powerful at the time of the Hobbit. Remember, this is before Sauron had mustered all his troops. Galadriel rules a realm and the Maia (Gandalf, Saruman, Ratagast) do not.

From the Warner Brothers booth I picked a magazine and acorn pin.

Autographed Robot Chicken Mo-Larr vs. Skeletor

Bragging Rights

Autographed Eternian Dentist Set and Color Changing Orko with Prince Adam.

While navigating my way through the craziness that is Comic Con, I had one of those right-place right-moment situations.

Seth Green and Matthew Senreich (Robot Chicken creators) were signing autographs and they agreed to sign this awesome Eternian Dentist set.

Seth even included some speech bubbles, quoting the episode.

Close up images of the autographs:

The infamous episode:

Toy Review:
Besides a missing tooth, Skeletor's face also has a grimace.

Exclusive Missing Tooth Skeletor

Similar to their standard (non Robot Chicken MOTU figures), Mattel has images of the other He-Man toys on the back of the packaging. Except, in this set the figures are based off the Robot Chicken sketch.
The image of Grizzlor is hilarious, poor guy!

Futurama Delivery-Boy Man Comic

Delivery-Boy Man, written by Philip J. Fry.
This Special Edition Futurama Comic and iTunes card were handed out at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con.

My favorite bonus features are the center-fold poster and letters to the editor section entitled: "Messages for the Messenger."

Delivery-Boy Man Futurama Poster.
Philip J. Fry, Delivery-Boy Man:

"Delivering the Goods .... Returning the Bads!"

Characters include:

- Sergio Aragones' Moustache
- Leelis Lane (Leela)
- Boxer the Robot (Bender) "Bite my shiny metal box!"
- Invader X

Background:
This comic is based off a hilarious episode of Futurama entitled, "Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences," (a must see if you've ever been to the San Diego Comic Con).

In this episode, an alien named Lrrr attempts to conquer Earth but finds himself in the middle of the Comic Con 3010 costume contest aka the Masquerade. A sub-plot involves Fry's hopes to impress his friends by creating his own comic book that features himself as a muscular super hero called "Delivery Boy Man." Fry visits the booth of Sergio Aragones' head where a sign hangs above the booth reading, "Last Actual Comic Booth."

When I was handed a copy of Delivery-Boy Man at the real San Diego Comic Con, I didn't realize that it was for an episode of Futurama that had yet to air. It was awesome when I finally saw the episode having already learned some details from the funny sub-plot.

Fry revises his comic multiple times in the Futurama episode, so you have to have a copy of the SDCC Delivery-Boy Man to know Fry's finalized story.

Hot Wheels Ectomobile

The real deal Ecto-1 was on display at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con.

It was awesome to get up close to this vehicle however, I will admit I am suspcious if Mattel is trying to cash in on a potential Ghostbusters 3 movie.

I must still be hurt by the way Activision flaunted their Ghostbusters Videogame only to rip it from or hands in favor of obviously more suitable games like Spyro the Dragon and Ice Age...wtf!

Since Activision's major failure to release the Ghostbusters Videogame, I can't be lied to again! Will there or won't there be more to this franchise?

I was able to purchased this exclusive Ghostbusters Ecto-1 from the Hot Wheels booth. I had a couple for sale in my store, but they are no longer avaialable.

Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet

What do you get when you combine the height of Amazonian Engineering with the marketing genius of Mattel?

Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet!

This exact replica was originally created as an April Fool’s prank. There was so much demand from fans it went into limited production!

WW can interact with her jet via telepathy and sometimes uses electronic devices within her tiara to command the plane's course and flight patterns. The plane is completely cloaked to the naked eye, however the human target inside is still visible - genius?!

I guess Amazonian woman are more concerned with looking hot and kicking butt, than concealing any cargo inside.

Eternia Pine - Moss Man Deodorant

Moss Man Eternia Pine
One of my biggest fears at Comic Con is getting trapped in line next to someone stinky.

It ain't easy getting those exclusives. One must battle their way through seas of people and no matter how high they crank up that AC, all those nerds in there can't help but sweat over all the rad merchandise and scantily clad cosplay girls.

Luckily this year Mattel brought some relief with their exclusive Masters of the Universe Promo: Eternia Pine. However, as with most things nerdy, these pine-fresh sticks will probably never be cracked open but instead sit proudly on collectors shelves.
